Business Oregon awarded 36 earthquake rehabilitation grants for a grand total of $80,851,799 in 2022.

The grants include funding for Clatskanie Elementary School and the Vernonia Rural Fire Protection District.

Clatskanie Elementary School will receive $2,330,610 for seismic upgrades to the school gymnasium.

According to Business Oregon, the Seismic Rehabilitation Grant Program is a competitive grant program from the state of Oregon that provides funding for the seismic rehabilitation of critical public buildings, especially public schools and emergency services facilities.

This is the eighth funding round of the Seismic Rehabilitation Grant Program to provide funding to improve the buildings that communities depend on in the face of a stronger and safer earthquake disaster.

It is one of the infrastructure programs administered by Business Oregon to create viable and thriving communities, in addition to the agency’s business development work.

Public K-12 school districts, community colleges, and educational service districts are eligible for this grant program. For emergency services facilities, the focus is on first responder buildings, including hospital buildings with inpatient intensive care facilities, fire stations, police stations, sheriff’s offices and 9-1-1 centers.

This year’s grants bring the total awards to 299 schools and 133 emergency services buildings that have received funding for improvements since the program’s first awards in 2009. The program was created by the Oregon Legislature in 2005 and transferred to Business Oregon in 2014.
